About the event

Join the Communal Table for an intimate creativity workshop and lunch with artist Kathy Leader in the garden and private art studio in the heart of the historic Mission Canyon Neighborhood.  We will start our event with a brief guided meditation, followed by an all level exercise to unlock and blossom the creativity that dwells within each of us.  Lunch will be served in the garden of this beautful home while we discuss the importance of art, creativity and our human value as creators, makers and innovators.

Kathy Leader grew up in South Africa where she received a degree in fine art at the Michaelis School of Art, University of Cape Town. She received her masters in art education before moving to Los Angeles in 1985. It was from her studio in the Crestwood Hills Canyon that Kathy developed a body of work that was shown in various galleries in Los Angeles. In 2021 she relocated to Santa Barbara which she says reminds her of her beloved Cape Town.

The sadness at the destruction of the environment is interwoven with her reverence for nature. There is a sense of reconstituting memories in her collaged and mono printed imagery.

In conjunction with her own work, Kathy is a “creativity coach” and owner of The Art Process Studio. Her mission is to make the art process accessible to everyone and anyone, regardless of their previous experience. “We are all creative beings and our instinct to create is deep”.  Her emphasis is on freeing our inner critic by working mindfully and intuitively with her nurturing and inspiring support. In addition, Kathy runs creative workshops for companies looking to bring wellness and creative thinking into the corporate world. Her style of teaching reflects her own creative journey allowing the process to become a personal voyage of internal discovery.

Along with her private teaching, Kathy has created an art program for the homeless and is a firm believer in the healing power of art which she blogs about monthly.
