hello

Hello, I am Jane Chapman, and I am the founder, facilitator, and chef of The Communal Table Santa Barbara, which creates intimate events for women, combining a guided conversation topic over a delicious meal. My passion is to create authentic community and connection through the intersection of food, hospitality and expertly facilitated conversations. Our events take place in private homes, local businesses, farms and ranches across Santa Barbara. Event menus are seasonally inspired and sourced at the Farmer’s Market. No topic is ever off limits and have included a range of discussions including, grief and loss, creativity, body image, forgiveness, and women in leadership. It is my passion to bring back the art of conversation and grow a diverse community of women to gather, share, learn from one another, hear a new perspective and maybe even make a friend. Guests at these events may be challenged by their thinking, feel a little uncomfortable at times and may leave with more questions than when they arrived, but it is my belief that this is a place where growth within and compassion for others begins. I was born and raised in Santa Barbara and have worked in the food & hospitality industry for over 20 years. My early career focused primarily on operating & managing my family's beloved local restaurants, Jane & Montecito Café. You may find my work developing recipes and content focused on fostering connection featured in numerous food & lifestyle publications including Sunset Magazine, Montecito Magazine, 805 Living and Santa Barbara Food & Home and regular contributor for to Edible Magazine. Around town you will find me involved in a deep conversation at a local coffee shop, in a home or restaurant kitchen testing new recipes or enjoying a hike in the foothills my family and our Queensland heeler.
